Snap-8 mimics the N-terminal region of SNAP-25, the SNARE protein that botulinum toxin cleaves. Rather than cutting the protein, it competes for a position in the ternary SNARE complex, which destabilises vesicle fusion. That competitive, reversible mechanism is why the peptide is studied as a topical research analogue for neuromuscular signalling work. The two additional residues relative to Argireline are reported to increase affinity for the complex. This is a cosmetic-chemistry research material, used at low concentration in formulation and cell-culture studies.
