Volta Peptides Science Scholarship

Every year Volta Peptides offers a $10,000 USD scholarship to support the next generation of scientific thinkers.

Scientific progress begins with curiosity, careful investigation, and the opportunity to learn. This scholarship supports students pursuing an education in chemistry, biochemistry, and related disciplines connected to peptide science. It is open to eligible first, second, third and fourth year students attending universities and colleges in United States and Canada.

You do not need previous laboratory experience, published research, or a fully developed career plan to apply.

Who can apply

  • Be enrolled at the application deadline in an accredited U.S. university or college, or a provincially or territorially recognized Canadian university or college.
  • Be in their first, second, third, or fourth year of an undergraduate degree or college diploma program.
  • Be studying a relevant discipline, or pursuing a clearly explained academic pathway connected to peptide science.
  • Submit a complete application by the published deadline.

Domestic and international students attending eligible institutions in either country may apply. Eligibility is based on where you study, rather than your citizenship. Students who have not yet declared a major may apply if their coursework and intended program are relevant. Graduate and doctoral programs are outside the scope of this scholarship.

Employees and owners of Volta Peptides, members of the scholarship selection panel, and their immediate family members are not eligible.

Eligible fields of study

  • Chemistry, including organic, analytical, and medicinal chemistry
  • Biochemistry
  • Biology, molecular biology, and cell biology
  • Biotechnology
  • Biomedical sciences
  • Pharmaceutical sciences and pharmacology
  • Chemical engineering and biomedical engineering
  • Biophysics
  • Genetics and microbiology
  • Neuroscience
  • Bioinformatics and computational biology

This list is not exhaustive. Students in another scientific or technical discipline may apply if they explain a meaningful connection between their studies and peptide research, synthesis, analysis, or related biological processes.

What the application asks for

  1. 1. Basic applicant information. Your full name, email address, institution, country of study, program or major, current year of study, and expected graduation date.
  2. 2. A personal essay of 500 to 800 words. Responding to this prompt:
How does your field of study connect to peptide science, and how do you hope to contribute to scientific understanding or innovation in the future?
    Your essay should discuss:
    • What interests you about your field and its connection to peptide science.
    • One scientific question, research challenge, or area of discovery you find particularly interesting.
    • Your educational or career goals and how this scholarship would help you pursue them.

Write in your own voice. Advanced technical knowledge and previous research experience are not required. If you discuss scientific findings or use outside sources, include brief references; references do not count toward the word limit. Distinguish established findings from ideas or possibilities.

Optional background reading, if it helps: our guide to reading and appraising a research paper covers how to tell a primary study from a summary of one, and our peptide science articles show how we write about this material. Neither is required reading, and citing Volta Peptides earns no credit in the assessment.

  3. 3. An applicant declaration. I confirm that this application is accurate, that the essay is my own ideas and my own writing, and that I meet the eligibility requirements.

Proof of enrollment is requested from the selected applicant before the award is finalized. A current enrollment letter or other official institutional confirmation is acceptable, and you may redact unrelated information such as student identification numbers, financial information, or grades. No recommendation letters, official transcripts, or application fees are required with the initial application.

How applications are assessed

Eligible applications are reviewed by a selection panel appointed by Volta Peptides, against these criteria.

Selection criterionWeight
Interest and relevance: A thoughtful connection between your studies, your scientific interests, and peptide science.35%
Reasoning and originality: Your ability to explore a question, explain your thinking, and approach scientific ideas carefully.30%
Educational goals and potential benefit: Clear goals and a meaningful explanation of how the scholarship would support your education.25%
Clarity and organization: A coherent, understandable response that addresses the essay prompt.10%

Applications are considered in the context of the student's year of study. First-year students are not expected to demonstrate the same technical knowledge or experience as students approaching graduation. The scholarship is awarded through an assessed application process, not a random draw. Financial need is not an eligibility requirement, and applicants do not need to provide financial records.

Recipient notification and payment

The selected applicant is contacted by email by June 20, 2027 and asked to confirm acceptance and provide proof of eligibility within 14 calendar days. If they do not respond within that period, or cannot verify eligibility, another eligible applicant may be selected.

The $10,000 USDaward is intended to support tuition, required academic fees, textbooks, and essential course supplies or equipment. Payment is normally made directly to the recipient's institution. If the institution cannot accept payment, an alternative arrangement supporting the same educational purpose is agreed with the recipient before payment, expected by July 1, 2027.

The scholarship is a one-time award for the stated application cycle and is not automatically renewable. Students in their final year remain eligible; an award to a graduating student may support eligible expenses from the academic year covered by the application.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to be studying peptides specifically?

No. Your program should have a reasonable connection to peptide science, but you do not need to be enrolled in a specialist peptide research program.

Can first-year students apply?

Yes. First, second, third and fourth year students are eligible. Prior research experience is not required.

Can community college and diploma students apply?

Yes, provided the institution and program meet the eligibility requirements.

Can part-time and international students apply?

Yes. Both full-time and part-time students may apply, including international students attending eligible institutions in United States and Canada.

Is there a minimum GPA?

No. Applications are assessed using the essay and the published selection criteria.

Do I need to buy anything or be a Volta Peptides customer?

No. Applying is free. Purchases, product use, social media activity, promotional endorsements and links to our website are not required and do not influence selection.

Do I need to conduct an experiment?

No. This is an educational scholarship application. No experimental work or use of any product is required.

Can I apply if I already receive other scholarships?

Yes. Receiving another scholarship does not make you ineligible. Check whether your institution has rules affecting how external awards are administered.

Will my essay or personal information be published?

Your essay will not be published without separate permission. Any public recipient profile, photograph or quotation also requires separate consent and is never a condition of receiving the award.

About Volta Peptides

The award is funded by Volta Peptides, a Canadian based research peptide supplier. Our research peptide catalog is supplied to laboratories and qualified researchers for laboratory research use only.

This scholarship exists because the work depends on the habits it asks you to write about: measuring something rather than asserting it, and publishing the measurement either way. Every lot we publish a result for is analysed by an independent laboratory, and those certificates of analysis can be read in full without an account.

Application terms and privacy

Applications must be complete, accurate, and submitted by May 31, 2027. Plagiarized essays, fabricated information, or applications that do not meet the eligibility requirements may be disqualified.

Applicants retain ownership of their essays. Submitting an application permits Volta Peptides and its scholarship reviewers to use the materials to assess the application and administer the award.

Personal information is used to review applications, verify eligibility, contact applicants, and administer the scholarship, as described in our privacy policy. Applying does not subscribe you to marketing communications.

Applicants should not submit government identification documents, banking details, or sensitive personal records with their initial application.

The scholarship is administered by Volta Peptides. A university or college's inclusion in the eligibility criteria does not imply a partnership with, or endorsement by, that institution. Questions about the scholarship can be sent through our contact page.
