Fuemmeler emphasized the promise of these drugs as extra support for breast cancer care. "Our study underscores the potential of GLP-1 RAs as an adjunct strategy for improving cancer-related outcomes among patients with breast cancer, although clinical trials are needed to inform effective therapeutic approaches and clinical decision making," he added.
Calls for Further Investigation
More work is required to clarify any direct biological effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists on breast cancer results. The research group plans randomized clinical trials to test these links. Such trials will guide treatment choices and decisions in clinics.
Obesity influences cancer rates broadly. Reports note that more than half of cancer patients in England had prior obesity. Excess body weight drives increases in cancer among younger adults.
